Through the flames, babes 🔥 Knight of Wands
Tarot for the week of 02/01/23 🎴 Pick your passion (and follow it)
Happy New Year, y’all.
To those of you on the gregorian calendar that is. In sitting with this New Year, I have decided I am firmly eschewing resolutions. But I will be taking on rituals.
After finally surfacing from the blur that is the days between Christmas and now, I found this podcast from Five and Nine Tarot really helpful. In it, Helen Shewolfe Tseng describes the power that can be found in ritual. In habits, done with intention, that hold purpose and place. This coming year, ritual is something I wish to cultivate. Whether it’s picking up my poetry practice again, taking more time with tea or just slowing down in general. Imbuing daily actions with the power of your presence can elevate them to something greater.
If this coming year is anything like the last, there will be many moments which will not be easy. If the astrological predictions from the wonderful Jaliessa Sipress are to be believed then this coming year is the time to cultivate community, build up focus and find ways/tools to relax. Solid substantial ways. A whole toolbelt of ways.
When pulling this week’s card I was a little surprised. I had the ten of wands in mind, or maybe the five of swords, possibly the ten of cups. Each of these is a sign of completion, or of biting off more than you can chew. But what came through was clearer. And so very needed.
Tarot for the week of 02/01/23: Knight of Wands
At the start of December, we were graced with the Page of Wands which through the pursuit of a single action would be changed. Here we see the next step. The change that occurs in just a month. Think back to where you were just a month ago. Are you the same? I doubt it.
In four short weeks, you may have gone from Page to Knight, ascending the pecking order and cutting your teeth on the challenge. Or you might have taken the opposite journey from charging in, to taking a less in-charge role. I can only imagine people going home to their families this time of year the flips in dynamics, the falling back into old actions, habit-worn grooves.
So here comes the message of the Knight of Wands, whose robes are adorned in the circular salamander, just like that of the Page. Through fire we are reborn. Through trial and change. Just like the year that has passed the salamander circles back on itself, a cycle renewed. Just like the other Knights of the Tarot the Knight of Wands is charging, their horse, with a mane of flames holding them aloft. In the midst of the action, decision, and passion.
In the distance of both these cards are three pyramids. Huge tasks that take more than one person to make. Achievements that are something tangible to aim for. Pick your pyramids carefully this year because there will be times when you can only see them on the horizon, or they may dip below it all together. And then you will need all the strength you have to keep going.
Pick an action, pick a purpose. Choose this year, to light a fire under yourself. And follow this. Let the purpose you have chosen push you forwards. Let it power you across the oncoming dessert. There will be chances to restart, for each year has many new beginnings. There will be moments to rest. But the power, the drive, the spark has to come from you. Find it. Guard it. Fight for it.
Journaling prompts from the Knight of Wands
This week ask yourself: What fills me with passion? What would I walk across a desert to get close to? How have I changed in the past month? In the past three? In the past year? Where do I see myself changing again? What do I need to support my passion? How can I get out of the way of my transformation? What can I do every day to bring me further on my journey?
I would also suggest revisiting the questions for the Page of Wands and seeing how your answers compare now. I’m always interested to hear what you come up with, so please get in touch.
So now for the usual spiel. As always I offer Written and Zoom Tarot Readings. If you’re interested in getting a reading but have no idea what to ask here is a selection of questions I have answered in my time to get you thinking. I also love doing a deep dive into the coming year, with a tarot card for each month.
Answering questions like these is such a pleasure and I would love to help you work through things with a fresh pair of eyes. If this sounds like something that you might be interested in, remember that all my offerings are sliding scale to make them as accessible as possible.
