Time to Realign 🏞 Temperance Reversed
Tarot for the week of 26/06/23 🧹 Clean out the cobwebs and find where you have been overcorrecting
Hello all,
Sorry for the break in communications. It’s been a busy couple of weeks. First, there was the wonderful wedding of my beloved’s friend, for which we drove several hundred miles. Then came our own anniversary which was celebrated by a beautiful meal at a local wine bar. Add to all this that my actual job has been pretty hectic, with farming really kicking it up a notch as strawberries come into season (finally) and our Spring CSA wraps up. Basically, I’ve been busy—my B.
I write this after midsummer, a day when the sun is at its zenith. A time when water was said to be the most purifying (I’m hoping for a wild swim later on). The idea of water being cleansing and purifying around this time of year is something that came up in a post from my favourite astrologer Jessica Alexandria of Behati Life. She noted that the ocean has begun to fight back, with Orcas sinking ships and billionaires taking themselves out in badly designed deathtrap submarines. Purifying indeed.
It feels like this time is washing away what doesn’t work. Or in the presence of the sun, scorching it away. How have you all been feeling over the past couple of weeks?
Before I pulled this week’s card I had already written the bit above. So when the card came out, with its images of water and the sun I laughed to myself a little. Couldn’t have planned it better if I tried.
Tarot for the week of 26/06/23: Temperance Reversed
Balance is something I have preached for a while. Between the ethereal and the physical. The spiritual and the mundane (and the truth in them being one and the same). Temperance is a card that encapsulates this balance.
We see the central figure, a winged shining being, pouring from one cup to the other. They stand by the edge of a lake, one foot on land and the other in the cool waters. This echoes the pouring water motifs of the Star and the one foot in/out also seen in that card. To one side of the figure are (what I see as) blooming Calla Lilies, to the other there is a path leading to a mountain over which dawn is breaking. The blooming, the crisp water, and the dawn all are evocative of new life. Of choices and beginnings, but ones that need guidance. That need a healthy give and take.
The card proceeding this one is that of Death. If inaccurate movies and other media are anything to go by the Death card should have us clutching our metaphorical pearls. Spelling bad luck and ruination. And yet, death is a part of life. We must each in our time go through many deaths because the only constant is change. So from the death card, which is almost like a cleaning. A cleaning out of infected tissue. Then comes the readjustment. The seeing balance. Temperance.
But here, this week, we have it reversed. After the last reading, which spoke of closing off cycles, trusting in those around you, and taking a damn break, we now have to come back to the center. I have found this in my personal life where I have felt myself softening over the past couple of years, being more gentle has been healing and vital. But at times I have overcorrected, being a little too tolerant or a little less likely to want to fuck shit up. Hell, even this newsletter seems to have been getting a little too self-love, and a little less eat the rich. And that is not the vibe I’m down to cultivate.
So here they’re. Temperance reversed. Where do you feel you have been overcorrecting? where have you come off balance? How have you let things slip, or found yourself in one area over others? How can you diversify back out?
The break, the rest, the recuperation, was essential. And now it’s time to spring clean, sweep the cobwebs out. Open all your windows and let the light in. Then find what isn’t working. Find places and parts of yourself that need guidance. That need tending or a little push. It’s time to realign.
As always, my Tarot offerings are available online. They can be written or via Voicenote, or as a live Zoom session. All of my sessions are done on a sliding scale, so it's pay what you can. If you can pay more, then the “extra” is carried forward so that someone else can get a session for free. Let me know if you're interested in any of this.
Catch you in ether,
M
