Breaking cycles and integrating lessons 💫 Wheel of Fortune Reversed
Tarot for the Week of 14/11/2022 🕳A karmic week and a quick chat on climate change.
Here we go again, boys. Another week down.
Here in Virginia, where I am living for the next week and a half as my farm season wraps up, it has been balmy. Waaaaaay too warm for this time of year. Almost as if the climate is changing and the globe is warming. Ok but sarcasm aside this feels so off, so odd, and so weird right in my bones. To not be freezing cold in November, to be in a T-shirt. For anyone who thinks a little Tarot Newsletter shouldn’t be digging into climate change, honey this place ain’t for you.
When I’m not reading tarot, which is a lot of the time tbh, I’m farming. Outside every day, watching storms come in, hearing stories of the way the weather was and the changes still to come. I actually reflected on this last year, as smoke from California met us in the Rockies.
My retired newsletter aside I sometimes need to remind myself how to function when the climate stress gets all too much. You may be thinking that I’m going to say Tarot can be a useful tool for this. And it can. But so can finding community, learning a new skill, giving your time and energy to projects that need it, and, at times, sitting still. Just for a second. There can be this frantic urge to do anything and everything and this can completely freeze us in place. This came up in the wonderful Belonging Podcast from Becca Piastrelli, where she held a conversation with Carmen Spagnola about coming to terms with our collapsing ecosystem. When I say this was a balm for my weary soul, I am not being (that) dramatic.
In all this, my point is that you can find plenty of other ways to make sense of this fraught time. But Tarot can also help in this. You can ask the cards where you should focus your energy. What skills you should learn? Where you can best serve the community? Or what else you may be missing from the bigger picture?
Tarot is a guide and using it as such can be very helpful. If you’re interested in using Tarot in this way or would like a reading on your role in the climate crisis, I am open for readings either over zoom or sent straight to your inbox.
Tarot for the week of 14/11/23: Wheel of Fortune Reversed
Some people don’t like using the reversed meanings of cards, they think what you see is what you get, whatever way up it is. And as someone who can’t tell the difference between her left and right (they are both Ls), sometimes I agree with this. But at times like this, I think the reverse of cards offers new angles, adjacent meanings and depth than that of the right-way-up card.
The Wheel of Fortune is the tenth card in the Major Arcana. In terms of the story of these cards, the 10th often symbolises the climax or ending to a story, in the Major Arcana a second cycle comes after this card. I think it’s important to consider the cards on either side for some of the meaning. Especially when it is such a potent card as the Wheel of Fortune. Before this card, there is the Hermit and after it comes Justice, as if through introspection and realigning with self, the wheel of time can move on, and then comes the justice that must be had.
In the reversed position this card suggests to me that there are cycles that we are all breaking out of. On the card itself, there are animal images that represent each of the elements, which echo the start of the journey where the Magician card had each of the suits of the tarot on their table. We have within us all we need to complete the journey, but through working with others we are able to integrate those lessons, break away from old patterns and change the course of fortune. No pressure.
This week ask yourself: What old patterns do I see surfacing? Do I wish to act in the same way as I have previously? How can I assert boundaries to change the pattern’s outcome? What have I learned over the past year that would apply? Where am I feeling stuck or off course? How can I course correct while maintaining balance? What patterns have I already changed? How can I acknowledge and embrace these changes I have made?
After the introspection of last week’s 9 of Pentacles Reversed, now is the time to take corrective action. If you are content with the way things are going, by all means, let the wheel roll on. But if not, gentle nudges and loving changes are the way forward.
So now for the usual spiel. I do in fact offer Written and Zoom Tarot Readings and will, come to the end of November, have a lot more time for bookings. If you’re interested in getting a reading but have no idea what to ask here is a selection of questions I have answered in my time to get you thinking.
Answering questions like these is such a pleasure and I would love to help you work through things with a fresh pair of eyes. If this sounds like something that you might be interested in, remember that all my offerings are sliding scale to make them as accessible as possible. I am also always available to chat if you want to work something out financially.
Ok, that’s me done. Off to sleep in this very dark 7 pm of a Sunday.
Catch you in the ether,
M
