Tarot for the week of 10/04/23 š± Sowing hopeful seeds and making the most of this moment
Hi Yāall, I hope youāre celebrating.
Ramadan, Passover, Christian Easter, and sunshine returning. There is a reason to celebrate for each of us.
I have found myself inundated with potlucks, three in a week to be precise. Itās wonderful, exciting and a little overwhelming. But in a good way. In a necessary way.
To add hectic to the pot, I am also running my first in-person workshop in a looooooong while this Tuesday (11th April) in Ann Arbor. If you know of anyone who might be interested, please send them an invite.
As for this week's card, it was at the bottom of the deck when I pulled the cards out to shuffle. Though the interpretations vary wildly, many Tarot readers take the card at the back of the deck to be the general mood of the time. The background information. The vibe. I too subscribe to this way of thinking. When I saw this card tucked in the well-used case I knew I had to listen. Upon flipping it the meaning became clear.
Tarot for the week of 10/04/23: Queen of Pentacles
I feel like I never see this card. And when I do itās such a treat. As with all Pentacles, this card represents the element of Earth. It relates to the material world, to the tangible, to vibrant growth and eventual decay. The Queens of the tarot represent the receptive power players, the figures of note. They reside over an aspect of the human experience and hold great sway over it. When thinking of the Kings and Queens I donāt think as one above the other but more as a partnership.
Within each of us there are both āfeminineā and āmasculineā traits, there is the capacity to exert energy and reflect it. There is both creation and destruction. Not that either of these is inherently masculine or feminine. Honestly, this is where I really struggled when first getting into tarot. As someone who doesnāt align with the gender binary, the whole divine masculine and feminine archetypes didnāt sit right with me. You may notice I refer to most of the figures within the tarot by they/them pronouns, not to eradicate their gender but to delve more into the archetype rather than the confines of masculine/feminine. But after years of practice and talking, and working on my own shit and with others, I can make peace with it. Plenty of āfeminineā people can be Kings, and plenty of āmasculineā people are Queens. Our ways of presenting ourselves, nurturing, and creating are all so varied. When looking at the archetypes of the tarot the Queens and Kings take on responsibility differently. Thatās what it boils down to. The Queens enmesh themselves with the elements they represent and the Kings separate themselves from them.
In this beautiful lush card, the Queenās robes become one with the first floor. Their crown a part of the sky. They hold a single pentacle, a great boon and consider it with intensity. Around the edge of the card weave roses and rose hips, symbols of fertility. Fertility can be many things, creativity, connection or actual procreation. This card is one of security, abundance and growth.
Last week, as the Full Moon in Libra crossed the sky (Thursday), I was called back to the post I made two months ago in early March. About the adding up of little actions, the accumulation of choices and the momentum that creates. This time has made me seek out comfort in ritual. In the little day-to-day things. I am hopeful that by working on the build-up, on the cementing of practices I feel like I have forgotten I will be able to make space for creativity.
Getting the Queen of Pentacles for this newsletter was a vibrant confirmation of how I had been feeling. As if slowly blossoming, or at least beginning to bud. The Queen of Pentacles calls us to take stock of the natural world, to add ourselves to it, to integrate. To enmesh. Plant your seeds, water hope, watch it all bloom.
If the mood of last week was hurry up and wait, the mood this week urges us to begin. To seek out council with those we admire, those in power, those who are part of something. It asks us to also get involved.
Journaling Prompts for The Queen of Pentacles
Ask yourself: Where am I unfurling? Where am I waking up? How can I spend time as a part of nature? What council can I seek out? Who do I admire? What can I bring them in return? Where am I hoping for abundance? What can I do to make it flow more easily? What small comforts can I provide to myself and others? How can I ease burdens? Where can I ask for or seek out ease? Who is inspiring me at this moment?
As always I would love to hear what this brings up for you. How have you been feeling?
A finalreminder that my in-person workshop will be coming up next week (11th April) in Ann Arbor. If you know of anyone who might be interested, please send them an invite.
