Check back in 🔥 Knight of Wands
Tarot for the week of 17/04/23 🐎 Charge ahead or slow down, but first check your directions.
A late one today, Lads.
Thank you for bearing with me. I took the weekend to relax, to refresh, to lay in bed and watch season 2 of Harlem. I took my own advice from last week and basked.
And now, snow has stifled our farming efforts so I’m writing from home (on a Monday!). As broth simmers on the stove top, the ginger tea flows and the 28°C weather of last week quickly fades from memory. Here we are in the in-between time of spring.
Oh also a fun little update on the live workshop I held; it went pretty well. Thanks for asking. It made me excited to try running more in-person events, to get to know the local tarot community. But it also made me realise how much there is to learn when you first start out in Tarot. How many tiny intricacies have wormed their way into my brain. It made me want to teach something online too. For those who can’t make it in person. So what’s brewing is a short course in reading the Tarot. I’ll keep you posted. Until then there is always the workbook I created as an Introduction to Tarot. The link for that is available to anyone who signs up for this newsletter.
Ok housekeeping out the way this week’s card has come up before this year. At first, I was hesitant to talk about it again so soon but then I thought about how much has changed since early January. How much can change still. And how looking back can help us know better where we’re going.
Tarot for the week of 17/04/23: Knight of Wands
The Knight of Wands came up back on 2nd January. Just a month before that, we were graced with the Page of Wands which through the pursuit of a single action was changed. The ascension in the pecking order that occurred over that time is something to think back on. But more so the change between January and now. We are over a third of the way through the year. Think about how fast that went!
Again, let’s look at the key imagery of the Knight of Wands. Wands are the element of fire and action. This is seen in the desert backdrop, the fire-like mane of the Knight and the active powerful movement of the horse. The robes of the Knight are adorned in the circular salamander, a motif echoed through the court cards of the Wands. This tells us: through the fire we are reborn. Through trial and change.
The salamander circles back on itself, a cycle renewed. This in some way reminds me that we can begin again at any time. An important thing to note, now that we are no longer at the “start” of the year. It also makes me think of the cyclical nature of healing and growing. In no way is life linear, we curl back on ourselves. Sometimes out of necessity, for safety or security. And other times because there is a lesson we need to learn that we might have missed last time. Think about how you have cycled back since January. What lessons have you learned and are ready to leave behind and what do you feel like you are now “worse” at? How can this be a sign to refocus? A distant pyramid to set your sights on. When I last talked about this card the pyramids in the background were attributed to tangible achievements that one could not take on alone. I remember warning…
Pick your pyramids carefully this year because there will be times when you can only see them on the horizon, or they may dip below it altogether. And then you will need all the strength you have to keep going.
This seems more prescient than ever, for myself and others. Remember what you set your sights on this year. How can you adjust the course so that you can once again charge towards it? How can you remind yourself you are not alone in this task? And where are you going to give yourself the grace to start again? These are the core questions of this week. Let yourself think on them. And be kind to yourself with the answers. Or even leave me a comment on how this check-in is going.
As always, I am available for Written and Zoom Tarot Readings. Readings via Voice Note are also available. If you’re interested in getting a reading but have no idea what to ask here is a selection of questions I have answered in my time to get you thinking. All my offerings are sliding scale to make them as accessible as possible. I am also always available to chat and always open to trade etc.
Catch you in the ether,
